Can Professional Pest Control Reduce Persistent Spider Problems?
Reduce, yes. Eliminate, no — and anyone promising a spider-free house is selling you something that does not exist. Here is what the work actually does.
What Cannot Be Promised
No property can be made permanently spider-free. Spiders enter constantly at ground level, through gaps under doors, air bricks, vents and open windows, and no building is sealed enough to prevent it.
They also do not behave like insects with treatment. A spider walks on the tips of its legs and picks up far less residue from a treated surface than a beetle or a cockroach does, which genuinely limits what a residual product achieves.
What Treatment Does Achieve
A residual applied to the places spiders actually rest and travel — skirtings, window reveals, door frames, corners, the external perimeter, garage and shed interiors — reduces the resident population and keeps numbers down through a season.
Combined with physically removing webs and egg sacs, it makes a noticeable difference in garages, cellars, conservatories and outbuildings, which is where most genuine complaints come from.

When It Is Worth Having
A population present all year in the same place rather than a seasonal surge. A garage, cellar or outbuilding that is heavily colonised. Webs that rebuild within days of being cleared. A business where webs on a shopfront or in a storage area are a presentation issue. And a household where somebody is genuinely frightened, which is a legitimate reason on its own.
In those cases it is £180 for the first room and £60 for each additional one, and early autumn or spring is the best timing.
When We Will Tell You Not To Bother
September. Two or three weeks of large house spiders indoors is wandering males looking for a mate. They are not resident, they are not breeding in your house, and they stop on their own — a treatment would coincide with the end of it and take the credit.
Also when the real problem is something else: a fly population indicating a dead animal in a void, damp supporting midges, or an outside light doing the whole job. Fixing that changes the spider population for good, and a treatment does not.
What Makes the Difference Alongside It
Change the outside lighting, which is the single biggest factor. Clear webs and egg sacs regularly, inside and out, particularly in late autumn — one egg sac removed is several hundred spiderlings that never hatch.
De-clutter garages and outbuildings and lift stored items off the floor. Fit brush strips to external doors. Cut back planting that touches the walls. Treatment on top of that works. Treatment instead of it does not last.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can you get rid of spiders completely?
No, and nobody can. Treatment reduces numbers; it does not make a house spider-free.
Why are spiders harder to treat than insects?
They walk on the tips of their legs and pick up far less residue from a treated surface.
Is a September problem worth treating?
Usually not. Those are wandering males and it passes in a few weeks.
