Pest Control Bexley
Carpet Beetle Control in Bexley
Carpet beetle larvae damage carpets, clothing, fabrics and anything else made of natural fibre. They are a different pest from carpet moth, they behave differently, and they are frequently mistaken for one another. Treatment is £180 for the first room and £60 for each additional room.
Beetle or Moth?
The larvae are the giveaway. A carpet beetle larva - a "woolly bear" - is short, banded and noticeably bristly, and it curls up when disturbed. A carpet moth larva is a smooth pale caterpillar, often in a silky case. Adult carpet beetles are small, round and mottled, and turn up on windowsills; adult carpet moths are buff and run rather than fly.
Damage differs too. Moth damage tends to be a spreading threadbare patch in one place. Beetle damage is more often scattered small holes, and can appear in stored clothing and along seams as well as in the carpet itself.

Where They Come From
Carpet beetles very often arrive from above rather than from inside. An old bird nest in a roof space, a loft full of stored wool and feathers, or a dead bird in a chimney or a soffit will keep supplying a house indefinitely. Treating the lounge carpet while that is in the loft is a permanent job.
Underlay matters as well. Where a house has an old felt or hair underlay under a modern carpet, the larvae feed on the underlay and the visible carpet stays fine until the damage is well on. That is one of the reasons beetle jobs get found late.
