What Is Included

Identification first, because beetle and moth are treated differently and the price being identical hides that. Then treatment of the carpet, the perimeter and the harbourage, plus wardrobe floors, drawers and stored fabrics in the treated room.

The One Thing That Decides Whether It Holds

Whether there is a source above the ceiling. Carpet beetles very often arrive from a roof space — an old bird nest, a dead bird in a chimney or soffit, or a loft full of stored wool and feathers. Any of those keeps supplying larvae indefinitely.

Treating the lounge carpet every spring while a bird nest sits in the roof is a subscription, not a solution. If the survey points upwards we will tell you, even though it makes the immediate job smaller and puts the real work somewhere else.

What Is Not Included

Removing a bird nest or a carcass from a roof space or chimney — that is quoted separately once we have seen what is involved. Laundering or dry cleaning affected clothing. Replacing underlay.

Where the old felt or hair underlay under a modern carpet is what the larvae are feeding on, we will say so. Treatment helps; the underlay coming up is the permanent answer, and that is a carpet fitter.

Stored Clothing

Wardrobe floors, drawers and boxes of stored textiles in a treated room are part of the job. If the problem is mostly in stored clothing rather than the floor, say so when you ring — the emphasis changes and so does the advice on what to wash and at what temperature.
