What Does a Professional Mouse Treatment Include?
Less about what is on the invoice and more about what actually happens, and when. Here is the timeline of a mouse job from the first visit to the end.
Day One: Survey, Then Treat
The survey comes first and it is not a formality. Mice live in voids, so the technician is looking behind and under the kitchen units, in the airing cupboard, around the boiler, at the loft hatch, in the understairs cupboard and at every point where a pipe or cable passes through a wall.
Treatment then goes into those voids and along the runs. Nothing goes in the middle of a floor, because mice will not cross open ground if they can help it and bait left there simply sits untouched.
The First Week
This is when most of the activity happens, and it can feel worse before it feels better. It is normal to hear more rather than less in the first few nights, because bait points draw mice out along the runs.
What you should not do is start putting down shop-bought bait alongside ours. Two different products competing for the same mice slows the whole thing down and makes the follow-up impossible to read.

What You Will Notice, and What It Means
Droppings stopping is the reliable sign. Noise stopping is less reliable, because mice go quiet for other reasons. A smell developing usually means something has died in a void, which is unpleasant and normal and passes.
Keep a rough note of where you hear anything. It genuinely helps at the follow-up, because it tells us whether activity has moved rather than stopped.
The Follow-Up Visit
Included. We check every point, read the monitors, and either confirm it is done or work out why it is not. If bait has been taken at one point and nowhere else, that tells us where the population actually is.
This is also when the proofing conversation makes most sense, because it is now obvious where they were getting in. Proofing is £180 for up to an hour, separately, and it is your call.
When It Is Not Finished
Occasionally activity continues, and there are usually only two reasons: a food source nobody has dealt with, or the mice are not only yours. In a flat or a terrace the second is common, and no number of repeat visits to your property will change it.
We would rather say that at the follow-up than book a third visit.
Frequently Asked Questions
How long does the whole thing take?
Most domestic jobs are done within two to three weeks, first visit to follow-up.
Can I put my own bait down as well?
Please do not. It competes with the treatment and makes the follow-up impossible to read.
Why is there a smell afterwards?
Something has died in a void. Unpleasant, normal, and it passes.
