Wasp Nest Treatment · Bexley
How Do You Find a Wasp Nest Around Your Property?
You do not search for the nest. You watch the wasps and let them take you to it. Ten minutes standing still will usually do it.
Watch the Flight Line
Wasps returning to a nest fly a consistent, direct route — the flight line — and they converge on the entrance from several directions at once. Stand well back where you can see a stretch of the building, and watch rather than search.
Pick a sunny, still period in the middle of the day when traffic is heaviest. Follow one wasp as far as you can, then pick up another. Within a few minutes you will see the point they are all disappearing into.
The Places They Usually Are
Under the eaves and the soffit. In a loft, hanging from a rafter or sitting on the insulation. In an air brick or a wall cavity. Behind a bargeboard or fascia. In a shed or garage roof space. In a bird box. Under decking. And, surprisingly often, in a hole in the ground under a hedge or bank.
Ground nests catch people out because there is nothing to see until you are on top of one. If you have been stung while mowing or strimming and cannot find a nest on the building, look at the ground.

The Entrance Is Often Not the Nest
This matters. Wasps entering an air brick, a gap under a tile or a hole in a soffit are using that as a doorway; the nest itself may be some distance inside the cavity or the loft.
So you do not need to see the nest for it to be treatable. Treatment goes to the entrance the wasps are using, and that is what carries it in. A nest you cannot see is a completely normal job at the same £90.
How Close to Get, and When to Stop
Watch from several metres away. You do not need to be near it, and getting near it is how people get stung. Never go up a ladder to look, never put a torch beam directly into an entrance at dusk, and do not stand in the flight line itself.
If wasps become agitated — more of them, flying at you rather than past you — walk away calmly and go inside. That is enough looking.
What Not to Do Once You Have Found It
Do not block the entrance. Wasps chew a new way out and it is frequently into the room rather than back outside. Do not spray it with a household aerosol; it kills the ones on the outside, leaves the colony intact and makes them defensive. Do not knock it down.
And if it is late October and the nest is nearly finished on its own, we will say so rather than take your £90. Colonies die off naturally in autumn and the same nest is never reused the following year.
Frequently Asked Questions
What if I cannot see the actual nest?
It does not matter. Treatment goes to the entrance the wasps are using and they carry it in.
When is the best time to watch?
A still, sunny period in the middle of the day, when traffic is heaviest.
Should I block the hole once I have found it?
No. They chew a new way out, often into a room.
